英字新聞を読む会は、日ごろから英語が好きで読解力や会話力の維持・向上を願っている方が、独学ではおのずと限界があるものの、グループで英字新聞を読み合わせることにより切磋琢磨し、グローバルな視野から世界の政治・経済・社会・文化などの動きをより広く深く理解していくことを狙いとしています。
新型コロナが蔓延するまでは名古屋市立大学一号館506セミナー室に集まり、毎月第4土曜日の14時から2時間程度実施していましたが、コロナを機にZOOMによるオンライン会議を主体として実施しています。輪番で各月の担当者が英字新聞（NYタイムズ、ウォールストリート・ジャーナルなど）の記事を選び、それをメールで会員に配信したものを、例会当日にその内容について順番に翻訳していき、日本語でディスカッションをして理解を深めます。現在の会員は10名程度です。
